First hypothesised by Welsh cynologist Clifford (Doggy) Hubbard in the December 10th 1937 issue of Our Dogs as the ancestor of the Rhodesian Ridgeback it now seems possible that individuals of the older South-East Asian breed from the Vietnamese island of Phu Quoc did indeed find their way to Africa.
Apart from the two breeds mentioned above there are three other 'ridged backed' breeds: the Cambodian Razorback Dog; the Thai Ridgeback and the Mha Kon Klab, also from Thailand.
